Women's Lacrosse Falls to Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team dropped their match against Meredith 11-9 Tuesday evening. 

The Basics 

Scores: Bridgewater 9, Meredith 11 

Records: Bridgewater (1-3), Meredith (4-0, 1-0 USA South) 

How it Happened 

  • The Eagles picked up the first goal of the contest after capitalizing on an early Meredith green card. Andrea Lorca scored unassisted on the extra woman opportunity. Meredith struck nearly a minute later, tying the score at one apiece. Taylor Price connected with Paige Mayers to give BC a 2-1 advantage with 4:43 remaining in the opening period. To close the first quarter, Meredith scored three goals in the span of two minutes to enter the break leading 4-2. 

  • Meredith scored two more to begin the second quarter. The BC scoring drought was broken by Paige Mayers on a free position shot with 5:18 remaining in the half.  

  • Ella Price opened the second half with a goal in the first 1:15 to make it a 6-4 lacrosse game. Meredith responded with three more goals before Madelaine Godat connected with Mayers for a goal in the final minute of the third quarter.  

  • Bridgewater scored in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter when Ella Price found Mayers for her third goal of the contest. Meredith swiftly responded with a goal of their own, but Godat and Mayers found the back of the net to cut the Meredith lead to two. Meredith scored with 4:46 remaining in the contest on a woman up opportunity. After not being able to capitalize on a free position shot a few possessions earlier, Paige Overeem scored on another free position with a minute remaining in the contest. 

Match Notes 

  • Paige Mayers recorded five goals with 11 draw controls and nine caused turnovers. Her nine caused turnovers was the most in a single game in program history, topping the previous record of seven. Mayers also recorded her 150th career draw control.  

  • Meredith out-shot Bridgewater 29-19 for the contest. The biggest disparity in shots came in the first quarter, where the Eagles were out-shot 10-4. 

  • Ella Price recorded three points in the contest, with two coming from assists. This is the second game this season where Price recorded multiple assists. 

  • The Eagles are now 1-2 in the series against Meredith.  

What's Next? 

Bridgewater travels to Fayetteville to face Methodist on Thursday, Mar. 5 at 5 p.m for the final match of their spring break road trip.
