DANVILLE, ,Va. - Averett scored twice in the first eight minutes Wednesday evening to defeat Bridgewater College 2-0 in non-conference men's soccer action. The game was stopped in the 72nd minute due to lightning and declared final.

Averett's Sebastian Kjernholm found the back of the net from 15 yards out in the fourth minute to give the Cougars a quick 1-0 lead.

The Cougars took advantage of a set piece in the eighth minute when Felix Squire headed a shot into the net off a corner kick, making the score 2-0.

The Eagles had plenty of opportunities as they held a 14-11 edge in shots and an 8-4 margin in corner kicks.

Eagles' keeper Mark Davis finished with three saves while Averett keeper Austin Bramhall recorded six saves.

The Eagles, now 4-3-2 overall, return to action Saturday when they host Guilford in ODAC play. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
