Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's soccer team took the lead in the seventh minute Thursday and never looked back as the Eagles defeated Southern Virginia University 3-0 at the BC Soccer Field.
The Eagles scored early when Matthew Pagano's through ball found Thomas White racing down the right side. White's shot beat the Knights' keeper but ricocheted off the far post. Bridgewater forward Max Chacon was there to clean up the rebound and his shot into an open goal gave the Eagles a quick 1-0 lead.
Bridgewater scored again in the 30th minute to lead 2-0. Eagles' defender Terrance Andrews possessed the ball near midfield and carried it past two defenders to the top of the box where he touched a pass to Renato Grgic. Grgic then sent a pass into the box where Dustin Heard beat the keeper with a shot from 12 yards out, giving the Eagles a two-goal lead.
The Eagles added their final goal early in the second half. Bridgewater's Jacob Heiston took a free kick from 40 yards out. The ball landed in the box and bounced over the keeper's head and into the net, putting the Eagles on top 3-0.
The Bridgewater defense was strong the entire game, allowing the Knights just one shot on goal in the contest.
The Eagles held a 17-6 edge in total shots and a 6-1 margin in corner kick opportunities.
Mark Davis and Quentin Boric combined for the shutout with Davis recording the one save.
The Eagles, now 2-1-2 overall, return to action Saturday when they travel to Maryland to face Stevenson University. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
