VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Bridgewater's season came to an end Wednesday afternoon in the ODAC women's soccer tournament quarterfinals with a 2-1 loss to Virginia Wesleyan.

The win was the second for the Marlins over the Eagles in the past week. Virginia Wesleyan defeated the Eagles by the same 2-1 score this past Saturday.

Following a similar script to Saturday's contest, the Eagles struck first, this time with a goal in the 16th minute. Julia Baca sent a cross from the right side of the box in front of the goal and fellow senior Michelle Viegas converted the shot for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead.

Virginia Wesleyan tied the score less than 10 minutes later on a goal by Kaitlyn Clunan. Eagles keeper Hayley Talbott tried to clear a long pass into the Eagles defensive end, but the clear attempt bounced off a teammate. Clunan possessed the ball, worked around Talbott and booted her shot into an open net to tie the contest at one goal apiece.

The Marlins scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 68th minute when Miranda Rupp connected from 20 yards out.

Bridgewater kept the pressure on during the final minutes. Following Rupp's goal, the Eagles had three shot attempts and three corner kick opportunities, but were unable to convert.

The Eagles held a 15-10 edge in shots and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Seven of the corners came in the second half.

Talbott finished with four saves for the Eagles while Marlins keeper Megan Gerhart recorded three saves.

Bridgewater finished its 2015 season with a 9-8-1 overall record.
