HARRISONBURG, Va. – Lynchburg College grabbed the lead midway through the first half and the Hornets went on to blank Bridgewater College 2-0 Sunday in an ODAC contest played at the Eastern Mennonite University turf field.
Bridgewater (2-6-1, 0-4 in the ODAC) had a chance to take the lead at the 24:02 mark when Alex Farrington's shot from the right side ricocheted off the near post.
Two minutes later, the Hornets cashed in when Zach Thomas stepped in front of an Eagles pass and found Matt Truslow open just outside the box. Truslow hit his shot from straight on just over the outstretched arm of keeper Mark Davis, giving the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
The Hornets (6-1-2, 2-0-1 in the ODAC) added their second goal early in the second half. Fredy Flores served a low pass into the box and Collin Kashmer scored on a header from 12 yards out, making the score 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
Bridgewater had another strong scoring chance in the 68th minute off a corner kick. Logan McGlynn served the ball into the box where Farrington put a shot on goal from close range. Hornets' keeper Corey Budka was able to get a hand on the shot, deflecting the ball wide of the goal.
The Hornets held an 11-6 edge in shots attempts while the Eagles took five corner kicks, compared to just two for Lynchburg.
Farrington and McGlynn each took three shots for the Eagles with Farrington putting the lone shot on goal.
Davis finished with five saves for Bridgewater while Budka tallied one save for Lynchburg.
Bridgewater returns to action Tuesday when the Eagles play their final non-conference game of the season. The Eagles will host Averett University with game time set for 4:30 p.m.
