Box Score VRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Wesleyan wiped out a 1-0 halftime deficit Saturday evening with two second-half goals to defeat Bridgewater College, 2-1, in the final game of the ODAC women's soccer regular season.
The Eagles will make the same trip Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the ODAC tournament as No. 4 Virginia Wesleyan will host the fifth-seeded. The Marlins secured the No. 4 spot by virtue of its Saturday night win. Virginia Wesleyan finishes the regular season with an 8-3 ODAC record while the Eagles check in at 6-4-1. Bridgewater is 9-7-1 overall.
Bridgewater scored the game's first goal in the 28th minute on a corner kick opportunity. Nicole Blackwell took the kick and the ODAC's leading scorer, Keri Rager, found the back of the net for her 14th goal of the season to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The Marlins tied the score in the 67th minute when Brooke Adamchak scored off a free kick from 40 yards out.
Virginia Wesleyan tallied the game-winner with less than 10 minutes remaining when Kristen Cherry spun around an Eagles defender and found the back of the net for a 2-1 Marlins lead.
The Eagles controlled play in the first half with an 8-4 edge in shots, but it was a different story in the second as the Marlins took seven shots while the Eagles did not have a shot attempt. For the game, Bridgewater held a slim 5-3 margin in corner kicks.
Bridgewater keeper Hayley Talbott had three saves while Marlins keeper Megan Gerhart finished with five saves, all in the first half.
