Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater College rallied with two second-half goals Saturday evening to defeat Guilford College, 2-1, in ODAC men's soccer action.
The victory was the fourth in a row in conference play for the Eagles and solidified the team's chances of claiming a spot in the upcoming conference tournament. Bridgewater is now 4-5 in the conference and tied for sixth place in the ODAC standings. Saturday's victory evened the Eagles overall record at 7-7-1.
Guilford led Saturday's contest 1-0 at the break. The Quakers scored in the 33rd minute when Christian Torres found the back of the net from 15 yards out.
The Eagles tied the contest in the 59th minute when Connor Henderson scored off an assist from Ben Lewis. The Eagles had possession on the right side with a throw in. Lewis received the throw in just inside the box and headed the ball across the box to a wide-open Henderson. The BC sophomore converted the shot into an open net for his team-high fifth goal of the season, tying the score at 1-1.
The score remained deadlocked until Bridgewater's Logan McGlynn converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead. McGlynn beat the Guilford keeper with a shot to the upper left corner of the goal.
Mark Davis went the distance in goal for the Eagles and finished with two saves. Bridgewater held a slim 16-15 edge in shots and a 7-4 margin in corner kicks.
Brigdewater is back in action Wednesday afternoon when the Eagles host Virginia Wesleyan in the final home contest of the regular season. The Eagles will recognize the seniors on this year's squad at halftime. The contest is schedule for a 4:00 p.m. start.
