BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team picked up a key conference victory Saturday morning with a 1-0 triumph over the Roanoke College Maroons.
With the victory, the Eagles improved to 7-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the ODAC. The Maroons dropped to 7-6-1 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
The Eagles struck quickly scoring the game's lone goal in the eighth minute of play. Freshman forward Bailey Kratz sent a ball ahead to Keri Rager who juked one defender and then beat a diving Roanoke keeper Sarah Dvorak with a driving shot to the far post to put the Eagles ahead 1-0. The goal was No. 13 this season for Rager, the most in the ODAC.
Both defenses were stellar the rest of the way and when offensive opportunities did arise both keepers – Dvorkak and Bridgewater's Hayley Talbott – were rock solid.
Roanoke held a slim 9-7 edge in shots while the Eagles had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Talbott finished the contest with eight saves to record her fifth shutout of the season. Dvorak tallied three saves for the Maroons.
The Eagles are back in action Wednesday afternoon when they host Randolph-Macon in ODAC action. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
