Box Score SALEM, Va. - Ashley Crossman scored both goals Saturday afternoon as the Bridgewater College Eagles picked up a key, 2-0, Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's soccer victory over Roanoke College.
The Eagles took the lead with a goal in the 29th minute off a set piece. Michelle Viegas took a corner kick for the Eagles and served the ball to the back post where Crossman made the shot into the right side of the goal for a 1-0 Eagles lead.
Bridgewater tacked on an insurance goal in the 64th minute. Keri Rager passed the ball to Crossman and the Eagles junior hit the shot with her left foot from outside the 18, sending the ball to the top shelf, far post and into the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles held a commanding edge in the stats, outshooting the Maroons 17-5. Seven different Eagles took shots with Rager leading with five attempts, including two on goal. Crossman and Viegas added three shots apiece. Bridgewater also held a huge 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Krista Kelly finished the contest with two saves and recorded her third shutout of the season for the victorious Eagles. For the Maroons, Caroline Sarbacher allowed both goals and recorded four saves in 70 minutes of action. Sarah Dvorak finished up and added one save.
The Eagles are now 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC. Since 2012, Bridgewater is 3-0-1 against the Maroons. Roanoke drops to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Bridgewater is back in action Wednesday afternoon when the Eagles host Hollins in an ODAC contest. Game time is 4 p.m.
