Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College took advantage of a Lynchburg defensive miscue early in the second half and emerged with a 1-0 victory over the Hornets in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer action Saturday evening at Shellenberger Field.
The only score of the game was an own goal as a Lynchburg defender's ball slipped past the Hornets keeper to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute of play.
Bridgewater maintained the advantage the rest of the way despite intense pressure from the Hornets offensive attack during the final 20 minutes of action.
For the game, Lynchburg owned a 20-7 advantage in shots over the Eagles with 11 of those attempts coming in the final 20 minutes.
The Hornets best chance to tie the game came in the 77th minute when a direct kick by Earl Rimbey hit the crossbar and bounced out of play.
Lynchburg had three corner kick opportunities over the final seven minutes, but each time the Eagles defense was up to the task.
Bridgewater keeper Kevin Morris earned the shutout and recorded nine saves during the contest. Two of those saves came during the final seven minutes.
On offense, Adrian Zamora took four of the Eagles' seven shots with one of those attempts on goal.
Bridgewater is now 2-6 on the season, but both victories have come in conference play as the Eagles stayed unbeaten in the ODAC at 2-0. The Hornets dropped to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday afternoon with a home non-conference contest with Southern Virginia.
