LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team got back on the winning track Tuesday afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Bridgewater swept the doubles competition to take a quick 3-0 advantage.
Brandon Larsen and Thomsa Rishcoff moved up to No. 1 doubles for Tuesday's match and defeated Matt Karvelas and Andrew Link 8-4. Christian Lynn and Drew Hubble played together for just the second time this season and rolled to an 8-2 victory over Tyler Long and Josh Johnson at No. 2. Kyle Hartfield and Aaron Snook played together for the first time this season and defeated Tayler Tepper and Noah Stewart 8-2.
Larsen had his hands full at No. 1 singles, needing three sets to edge Karvelas. Larsen won the first set 6-4, but Karvelas turned the tables and won the second set by the same score. Larsen won deciding third set, 7-5.
The Eagles won the next three singles flights in straight sets. Hartfield controlled play at No. 2 singles, defeating Stewart 6-1, 6-0. Lynn won a close first set over Johnson 7-5 and rolled to victory in the second set 6-0 at No. 3. Rishcoff was impressive at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Link.
Snook took a split set victory over Long at No. 5 Snook won the first set 6-3 before Long evened the score by winning a close second set 7-5. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner and Snook prevailed 10-5.
Lynchburg scored its lone point at No. 6 singles where Tepper turned back Kyle Bowers 6-4, 6-0.
The Eagles are now 9-8 overall and 5-2 in the ODAC.
