Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 victory Wednesday evening over Southern Virginia University in non-conference action. The game was the first ever played under the lights at The Fields at SVU.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles finally got on the board early in the second half. In the 55th minute, freshman Alli Shaffer took a crossing pass from Melanie Waters and found the back of the net for a 1-0 Eagles lead.
Bridgewater added an important insurance goal in the 81st minute when Kelly Patterson was wide open in the box and converted a pass from Michelle Viegas into an easy goal for a 2-0 Bridgewater lead.
Bridgewater dominated the statistical categories with a 15-2 edge in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eagles defense was rock solid, allowing the Knights just two shots, both early in the second half.
First-year keeper Kelsey Hecker recorded one save and earned her first collegiate shutout.
The Eagles return to action this weekend when they travel to play in Salisbury University tournament. Bridgewater will play games against Ursinus and the host Seagulls.
