Women's Soccer Blanks Sweet Briar In ODAC Action

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater Eagles improved to 2-0 in the ODAC with a 10-0 victory Saturday morning over Sweet Briar College. The Eagles are now 4-3 overall.

Less than five minutes in, Sweet Briar got off the first shot of the game when Chelsea Daniels' attempt from 25 yards out sailed over the crossbar.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the 14th minute when Julia Baca took a cross from Nikole Blackwell and beat the keeper to the far post for a 1-0 lead.

Bridgewater made it 2-0 when Melanie Waters' centering pass into the box found the foot of Sarah Conner who took the pass out of the air and scored from 10 yards.

In the 38th minute, Logan Hatfield got a foot on the ball just in front of the Sweet Briar keeper and the ball rolled into the goal for a 3-0 Bridgewater lead.

The Eagles closed the first half scoring with a goal with just 10 seconds left. Alli Shaffer had possession of the ball on a breakaway and gave a perfect pass to Marino Del Pizzo for a shot into a wide-open goal, giving Bridgewater a 4-0 lead.

Bridgewater added two goals in the first two minutes of the second half. Michelle Viegas scored just 36 seconds into the second half to make it 5-0 and Baca scored her second goal off an assist from Anna Theisen for a 6-0 Eagles lead.

Paxton Sauerwald made it 7-0 when her shot from 15 yards out caromed off the keeper's hands and went just under the crossbar for the goal. Jennifer Conner made it 8-0 with her first career goal and a penalty kick by Melanie Waters gave Bridgewater a 9-0 lead.

Jennifer Conner scored again to close out the scoring with the assist on the shot going to Amanda Peregory.

Bridgewater held a 24-2 edge in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Kelsey Hecker and Stephanie Bebko split time in the goal for the Eagles in the shutout victory.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to meet Salem College. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
