Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – Five different players found the back of the net to help lead the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team to an easy 5-2 victory in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon against Sewanee.
Early in the contest it was the host Tigers controlling play as they rattled Bridgewater goalkeeper Jessica Balsano with a number of shots but the Sandy Hook, Conn. native was up to the task, turning away each Sewanee scoring attempt to keep the game scoreless in the early minutes.
At the 16:29 mark, senior Megan Gould took a Jennifer Tompkins pass and stroked a shot past the Tigers' keeper to put the Eagles out in front, 1-0.
Four minutes later, sophomore Taylor Prillaman got in on the scoring when she fired a shot into the back of the net off of a Colleen Dickson pass to build the Bridgewater advantage to 2-0.
Bridgewater rounded out the first half with a goal late in the 30th minute. Junior Caroline Augsburger netted an unassisted tally at the 29:59 mark of the contest to put the Eagles up 3-0 as the game headed to the intermission.
Despite being outshot by a 12-5 margin over the opening 35 minutes of play, it was Bridgewater capitalizing on its opportunities to build out a three-goal halftime lead.
The Eagles wasted little time in adding to their lead. Less than two minutes into the second half, sophomore Allison Kirk took a Prillaman pass and beat the keeper to put the Eagles out in front by a 4-0 score.
Sewanee finally cracked the scoreboard in the latter goings of the second stanza when Carrie Anderson found the back of the cage to trim the Bridgewater advantage to 4-1.
Sophomore Sarah Rozell rounded out the scoring for the Eagles in the 60th minute when she found the back of the net off of an Augsburger pass to propel Bridgewater to a 5-1 lead.
At the 66:27 mark, Sewanee finalized the scoring when Karen Dawson beat Balsano with a shot off of a pass from Tilden Davis to make the score 5-2 which is how the contest would end.
Prillaman and Augsburger each registered a goal and dished out an assist in the win. Bridgewater earned the victory despite being outshot by a 22-12 gap on the afternoon.
Balsano picked up her second straight win after turning away 12 Sewanee shots along the way.
Anderson registered a goal and seven shots to lead the way for the Sewanee attack, while Ellie Barton picked up the loss after allowing three goals in just under 41 minutes of action.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when it travels to the University of Mary Washington for a showdown with Rhodes. Start time against the Lynx is set for 1 p.m.
