VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Wesleyan scored in the sixth minute of the first overtime period Saturday evening to defeat the Bridgewater College Eagles, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer tournament.

The two squads battled through 76 scoreless minutes before the Marlins took the lead. Isaac Arrington scored on a shot from 10 yards out in the middle of the box to put the host team on top 1-0.

It looked as if one goal might be enough, but the Eagles scored the equalizer with less than four minutes left in regulation. Patrick Thornton gathered in a crossing pass from Ben Lewis and the Eagles senior found the back of the net from eight yards out to tie the score, 1-1.

The Marlins scored the game-winner midway through the first overtime period when Brian Cornell's crossing pass connected with Kyle Fisher. Fisher hit his shot from 10 yards away into the right corner of the goal to send the Marlins to the ODAC semifinals with the 2-1 victory.

Virginia Wesleyan owned a 20-11 margin in shots, but shots on goal were even at six each. Corner kicks were also even as each team had three during the contest.

Bridgewater keeper Kevin Morris recorded four saves while Marlins goalie Connor Kirkham finished with five saves.

The Eagles end the 2013 season with an 8-8-3 overall record.
