Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Lynchburg College snapped a scoreless tie with a goal early in the second half and the Hornets held on the rest of the way to take a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater College in ODAC men's soccer action.
Bridgewater goalkeeper Kevin Morris and Hornets keeper Jonathan Sheffield traded spectacular saves during much of the game.
After a scoreless opening half, the Hornets scored the game's only goal in the 48th minute. Lynchburg's Luke Moore flicked a heel kick across the box and teammate Chas Ashton slid a shot past a diving Morris and into the net, giving the Hornets the 1-0 lead.
The Eagles tested the Hornets defense several times in the second half but were unable to score the equalizer.
With 22:41 left, Adrian Zamora chipped a shot ahead to Sawyer Janes who got past his defender. Janes tried to beat Sheffield to the near post from 12 yards out, but the Hornets keeper made a diving stop to record the save.
Just minutes later, Janes sent a through ball to Ben Lewis but Lewis' shot was just wide of the goal. Janes had another good look at a shot with six minutes left but his shot sailed wide of the mark.
Morris finished the contest with eight saves while Sheffield finished with seven saves.
The Hornets held a 17-14 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eagles are now 5-5-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the ODAC. Lynchburg is 6-4-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the ODAC.
Bridgewater returns to action Wednesday evening when the Eagles travel to Winchester to play the Shenandoah Hornets. Game time is 7 p.m.
