Box Score SALEM, Va. - Melanie Waters scored a pair of second-half goals Saturday afternoon to lift the Bridgewater College Eagles to a key 2-0 ODAC victory over the Roanoke College Maroons.
The victory is the first-ever for the Eagles against Roanoke. The Eagles are now 7-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the ODAC while the Maroons drop to 6-3-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The contest was scoreless for the first 64 minutes and then Waters drew a foul in the box. The Bridgewater junior converted the penalty kick to put the Eagles on the board.
The Eagles added an insurance goal in the 81st minute when Waters got free on a breakaway and beat the goalie with a shot to the far post from 18 yards out, giving BC a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Krista Kelly made her first career start in goal and earned the shutout with eight saves
Roanoke held a 10-6 edge in shots, but the margin was just 5-4 in favor of the Maroons in the second half. Bridgewater led in corner kicks, 4-1.
Bridgewater is back in action Tuesday afternoon when the Eagles host Hollins in a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
