BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Behind a doubles sweep and five wins in the six singles matches contested, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team ran its winning streak to five matches with an easy 8-1 victory over visiting Roanoke in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Wednesday.
Freshmen Evan Stack and Brandon Larsen got things rolling with an easy 8-2 triumph at number one doubles but things weren't quite as simple for Bridgewater's number two duo.
The tandem of Peter Hawkins and Christian Lynn were pushed to the limit in a 9-8 victory at number two as the duo won the tiebreak by an 8-3 margin to hand the Eagles a 2-0 lead after a pair of doubles affairs.
Freshman Mike Cable teamed up with senior Brent Floyd to post an 8-4 win at number three to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead heading to singles.
Hawkins got things started with a 6-4, 6-1 win in top flight singles before Larsen cruised to an easy 6-2, 6-0 win at number two.
Stack lost games in each set but rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at number three while Floyd notched a 6-0, 6-0 straight-sets victory at number four.
Lynn earned the final win of the evening for the Eagles at number five with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Sophomore Sam Churchill dropped the lone match of the day for the Eagles, falling in a thriller at number six by a 6-4, 7-5 tally.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when Guilford comes to town. Saturday's matchup with the Quakers marks Senior Day for the Eagles and is also Alumni Day as first-year head coach Marty Perry welcomes back all former BC tennis players. Start time against Guilford is set for 2 p.m.
