Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College picked up its first victory of the season in men's soccer action Sunday with a 2-1 decision over the University of Mary Washington.
With the victory the Eagles are now 2-1 on the season. The win was also the first for Bridgewater's first-year head coach Ryan Bennison.
Bridgewater led 1-0 at the half on the strength of a Ryan Tavernaris (Staunton, Va./Fort Defiance) goal in the 28th minute of play.
The score remained 1-0 until the 64th minute when Alec Utter (centreville, Va./Westfield) scored off an assist from Cody Weaver (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Mary Washington cut the margin to 2-1 when Jake Doyle scored with just 2:03 left in the contest.
Bridgewater held an 11-10 edge in shots while Mary Washington held a 6-2 margin in corner kicks.
BC keeper Travis Morris finished (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) the contest with four saves.
Bridgewater is off until Saturday when they host Ferrum on the first day of the Upper 90 Challenge in the Valley at the BC soccer field.
