Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Sawyer Janes (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) scored with 4:10 left in the first overtime Saturday to lift the Bridgewater College Eagles to a 2-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action.
The victory marked the first in program history for the Eagles over the Marlins.
The Eagles scored on a corner following an ejection of a Marlins player. Alec Utter (Centreville, Va./Westfield) took the corner for the Eagles and Janes headed in the ball into the net for a 2-1 Eagles victory.
The Eagles took the lead midway through the first half when they scored off a corner. Utter took the corner and Ryan Tavernaris (Staunton, Va./Fort Defiance) headed in the shot to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.
The Eagles kept the Marlins' attack in check until the 74th minute when Adam Stringer scored off an assist from Josh Christian to tie the score.
The Marlins held a 20-16 edge in shots and a 9-7 edge in corners.
Bridgewater freshman keeper TJ Martin (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) was solid in goal and finished with six saves.
The Eagles improve to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the ODAC while the Marlins dropped to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Bridgewater returns to action Thursday when the Eagles travel to Winchester, Va., to meet Shenandoah for an evening contest. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
