BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Junior Kelly Ryan paced the offense with a pair of goals as the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team topped visiting Sweet Briar by a 4-1 score in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action at Mapp Field.

Ryan tallied her first goal of the game on an open look in front of the net in the ninth minute to give Bridgewater a 1-0 lead which is where the game would remain as things headed to the intermission.

After the halftime break, Ryan started a scoring barrage for the Eagles when she took another look at the cage and put it past the Vixens keeper to put Bridgewater up by a 2-0 score with under 25 minutes to play.

Sophomores Galen Goodman and Jennifer Tompkins scored during the next seven-plus minutes to extend the Eagles lead to 4-0 with under 18 minutes remaining.

Following the Tompkins goal, Sweet Briar got on the scoreboard when Kimberly Orchowski put a shot past Jessica Balsano to cut the gap to 4-1 which is where the game would end.

Bridgewater outshot Sweet Briar by a 20-to-5 tally and owned a 17-to-8 gap in corners.

Balsano and senior Taylor Waddell split time in the cage, with Waddell seeing action in the first half while Balsano closed the game out in the second half. Waddell turned didn't see a shot during the first stanza, while Balsano recorded three saves in the final 35 minutes.

Bridgewater is back in action tomorrow afternoon when the team travels to St. Mary's (Md.). Action is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start.
