BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Southern Virginia University Knights scored in the waning minutes of the second overtime Saturday to edge Bridgewater College in non-conference men's soccer action.

The Eagles led at the half, 1-0, when Nick Rutten (Myersville, Md./Middletown)blasted a goal past the Knights' keeper from 30 yards out at the 17:21 mark.

The Knights tied the score in the 63rd minute on a goal by Tyler Laurent and then took the lead on an own goal at the 72:15 mark.

Playing a man down, the Eagles fought back and tied the score two minutes later on a Kevin Gorman (Annapolis, Md/Mount Saint Joseph) goal.

The Eagles had the only two shots of the first overtime but were unable to find the net as the contest moved to a second overtime period.

With just 2:40 left to play, Laurent cleaned up a loose ball in front of the Eagles net and punched it in for the game-winning goal.

The Eagles, now 0-2 on the season, return to action Wednesday when they travel to N.C. Wesleyan College.
