Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. – In out of conference
action on the road, the Bridgewater Eagles (4-2) field hockey team
outshot the host Shenandoah Hornets (3-0) but couldn't find
the back of the cage as the Eagles fell by a 1-0 score to the
Hornets.
Shenandoah senior Paola Aguilar tallied the game's lone
goal just 85 seconds into the contest to put the Hornets ahead
1-0.
Bridgewater peppered Shenandoah goalie Sarah Clare with seven
shots on goal, but Clare was up to the task turning away every
Eagles opportunity.
A quartet of Eagles led the offense with two shots apiece.
Sophomore Joan Burleson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) and senior
Leah Cossentino (Marriottsville, Md./Glenelg) led the Bridgewater
attack with two shots on goal each.
Bridgewater outshot Shenandoah by an 11-to-8 tally.
In the cage, junior Taylor Waddell (Reedsville, Pa./Indian
Valley) picked up the loss. Waddell allowed the lone goal before
turning in 68 minutes of shutout action. The Reedsville, Pa. native
stoned five Hornets scoring attempts in the loss.
Bridgewater is back in action on Sunday, September 19 when the
Eagles host St. Mary's (Md.). Action from Mapp Field starts
at 1:00 p.m.
