Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team took a 1-0 lead into the locker room but the Washington and Lee Generals tallied the equalizer in the second half and the game-winner in overtime to defeat the Eagles by a 2-1 tally in the regular season finale at Mapp Field.
Bridgewater got on the board early when senior Brianna Jacques (Orange, Va./Orange) took a rebound off of the post and beat the Generals goalie to put the Eagles ahead 1-0. Bridgewater applied some added pressure in the first stanza but couldn't muster an insurance goal as the game headed to the intermission.
Out of the halftime break, Washington and Lee knotted the game at one each when Jennie Norcici scored off of a corner insert at the 46:18 mark.
Both teams had a number of chances over the final 23-plus minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net as regulation ended with a 1-1 deadlock.
In the overtime session, Bridgewater had a multiple opportunities to put the game away but a pair of saves by the Generals kept the game at a 1-1 tie.
Washington and Lee tallied the game winner at the 8:43 mark of the overtime session when Lindsay Crittendon found the back of the net to give the Generals a 2-1 victory.
Jacques led the Bridgewater offense with four shots on the day.
In the cage, junior Taylor Waddell (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) turned away three shots in the loss.
Bridgewater earned the #5 seed for the upcoming ODAC Tournament and is slated to travel up I-81 to do battle with Eastern Mennonite on Saturda. Gametime against the Royals has yet to be determined.
