Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Hampden-Sydney broke open
a 2-1 game with three goals in the final 20 minutes to defeat
Bridgewater College, 5-1, Wednesday in ODAC men's soccer
action.
The Tigers got off to a quick start with two goals in the first
15 minutes. Chris Whiteside scored both goals for Hampden-Sydney as
the hosts grabbed a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles tightened the defense for the rest of the half as the
Tigers carried the two-goal lead into the break.
Bridgewater scored early in the second half to make it a
one-goal game. Ryan Morgan
(Tappahannock, Va./Essex) scored the goal at the 50:53 mark with
assists going to Michael Moore
(Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) and Alec Utter
(Centreville, Va./Westfield) on the play.
The Eagles stayed within a goal until the final 20 minutes when
a three-goal barrage sealed Bridgewater's fate.
Both teams finished the contest with 18 shots and the Eagles
held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
Bridgewater is now 2-11-2 overall and 1-6-2 in the ODAC.
The Eagles return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel
to Lexington, Va. to meet the Washington and Lee Generals. Game
time is set for 2:30 p.m.
