Box Score BRIDGEWATER, VA. - Bridgewater College win its
fifth straight game Tuesday afternoon as the Eagles defeated rival
Eastern Mennonite 3-1 in ODAC women's soccer action.
For the first 14 minutes, play was contained to the midfield
area as few shots were taken by either team.
The Eagles found the net at the 31:27 mark when Melanie Waters
(Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake Senior) scored off an assist from Brittney
Harris (Laurel, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) to give the hosts a 1-0
lead.
Bridgewater put together a strong offensive flurry later in the
half that resulted in a second goal. Jacey Kelley (Road
Newburg, Pa./Shippinburg) had a 1-on-1 opportunity but EMU keeper
Abby Diffenbach came up with a big save. Seconds later Abby Dehoff
(Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) hit the crossbar with a shot from
18 yards. The Eagles kept the pressure on but a good look by
Waters sailed wide. The offensive pressure paid off when Kelley
took a perfect pass from Krissy Snyder
(Eden, N.C./Morehead) and this time won the 1-on-1 battle to give
the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles made it 3-0 early in the second half when Caroline Banks
(Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan Catholic)scored off an assist
from Sara
Taylor (Chesterfield, Va./James River) at the 52:19 mark.
EMU avoided the shutout when Melissa Miller's shot from 25 yards
hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced into the goal, making
the score 3-1.
With the victory, Bridgewater improved to 7-6-1 overall and 6-2
in the ODAC. EMU dropped to 4-7-2, 2-4-1 in the conference.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when they travel to
Guilford in ODAC action. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
