Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Roanoke College scored the
game's only goal early in the second half Tuesday to defeat
Bridgewater College, 1-0, in ODAC women's soccer action.
The first half was a defensive stuggle with most of the action
taking place in the midfield.
The Eagles had a slight edge in shots in the opening half, 4-3,
with three shots on goal to the Maroons' one. BC had the best
scoring chance in the first half when Meghan Groos beat her
defender, but Roanoke keeper Lindsay Kooiman was up to the task and
recorded the save.
Roanoke took its first corner of the match early in the second
half and the Maroons took advantage as Jessica Welfare headed
McKenzie Garst's corner past BC keeper Cari Hensley to give Roanoke
the lead at the 56:36 mark.
Kooiman finished the contest with four saves to record the
shutout. Hensley finished with five saves for the Eagels.
Bridgewater is now 6-2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the ODAC.
Roanoke improves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
