Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - In ODAC play at Washington and
Lee (5-6, 3-2 ODAC), the Bridgewater Eagles (7-6, 1-4 ODAC) field
hockey team fell behind early and was unable to climb back as the
Eagles fell to the Generals by a 5-0 score.
W&L got on the board at the 6:20 mark when a Grace McGee shot
found its way past BC keeper Elizabeth Sullivan on a penalty stroke
to give the Generals a 1-0 lead.
Three minutes later, Sallie Armstrong netted her first of two
goals on the day off of a Christina Benedetti pass to extend the
W&L lead to 2-0, which is where it would stand until the
intermission.
Bridgewater was able to keep Washington and Lee in check through
the first 17 minutes of the second half until Ashley Barnes put a
shot by Sullivan to give W&L a 3-0 advantage.
Less than five minutes later, Steph Mansey would put a Katherine
Price pass into the back of the cage to give the Generals a
commanding 4-0 lead.
Armstrong would round out the scoring with 1:32 left in the
contest, netting her second goal of the afternoon, to finalize the
scoring at 5-0.
Sullivan picked up the loss, allowing all five goals, while
turning away nine other W&L attempts.
BC was outshot by a 23-7 tally.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday when Lynchburg comes to
town. Wednesday's game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
