Women's Soccer Stifles Salisbury

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College women's soccer team won at home against Salisbury 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Basics:

Score: Bridgewater 1, Salisbury, 0

Record: Bridgewater (5-1), Salisbury (1-5-1)

How it Happened

  • The first half of the match was a defensive showdown between both teams. Lyric Birkley took the first shot of the match in the seventh minute, but it went off target. Sophia Phillips had the lone shot on target of the half, but it was saved by Sea Gulls keeper Hayle Foreman. Sienna Smith, Laura Narby, and Cassandra Villafan each took shots, but were off the mark.

  • In the 52nd minute of the match, Laura Narby scored the first and only goal of the match immediately after a stoppage. The Huntington, N.Y. native received a pass from Phillips and lasered a strike into the goal from range.

  • In the 64th minute, freshman keeper Erinn Lockard faced her first shot of the match, a shot bottom center from Ashley Pantano. She managed to keep the ball from finding the Bridgewater nylon. Lauren Chesney fired off a shot in the 76th minute, but it met the gloves of Lockard.

Match Notes

  • Narby scored her third goal of the season. The goal from this match made her the team leader in goals scored this season.

  • Phillips logged her first assist of the season.

  • The Eagles only saw two shots on target in the match. This is the fewest since the season opener against Carnegie Mellon. Despite this, BC still managed to win the shots battle, as Salisbury only recorded seven, with two being on target.
