Women's Soccer Shuts Out No. 16 Tartans

MARIETTA, Ohio – Bridgewater College women's soccer team defeated No. 16 Carnegie Mellon 1-0 Friday evening behind an early goal from junior midfielder Katherine King

How it Happened 
  • Sophomore Grace Minton took a free kick for the Eagles in the seventh minute. A pass delivered swiftly inside the box from freshman defender Maryn Harris found the feet of King for the lone goal of the match. 
  • The match saw a disparity in shots on goal. The No. 16 Tartans sent 23 shots, while Bridgewater only sent five. In the second half, Bridgewater only had one shot attempt, a miss left by sophomore Lucy Larson in the 67th minute, compared to Carnegie-Mellon's 13. The Tartan attack was stifled by resilient play from the Bridgewater back line and goalie.  
  • Freshman Erinn Lockard played all 90 minutes in goal for the Eagles. Lockard had five saves in her regular season debut.  
Match Notes 
  • Junior midfielder Hannah England picked up the Eagles' first yellow card of the season in the 44th minute. 
  • King's first goal of the season brings her career goal total to nine. 
What's Next 
The Eagles return to play for their second and final match in Marietta Soccer Classic against the host Marietta on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m. The Pioneers faced Wittenberg before the Bridgewater-CMU matchup. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. The match against Marietta will be streamed live on FloCollege.
