Women’s Soccer Improves to 2-0 Behind Goals From Belan, Birkley

Marietta, OhioThe Bridgewater women's soccer team won 2-0 against Marietta College Saturday evening behind goals from seniors Anna Belan and Lyric Birkley. The Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season and finished their slate of matches in the Marietta Soccer Classic with a spotless 2-0 record.

How It Happened 
  • In the 7th minute of the match, a throw in found senior defender Anna Belan at the top of the circle. The Elkins, W. Va. native sent the rock just under the center of the crossbar to find the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career.  
  • Ten minutes into the second half, senior Lyric Birkley dribbled her way to the top of the key and found the bottom left corner of the net. 
  • Compared to the Eagles' previous match against No. 16 Carnegie Mellon, Bridgewater was the aggressor for most of the match. BC took 15 shots compared to Marietta's five.  
  • Freshman goalkeeper Erinn Lockard saw less pressure in her second career start. Lockard only faced five shots and made one save. Senior keeper Micah Stine subbed in for the final ten minutes of the contest. 
 
Match Notes 
  • Belan scored the first goal of her career. This was Belan's 30th career appearance for the Eagles. 
  • Birkley's goal in the second half was her first of the season. The goal broke a three-way tie for the fifth most points (80), and a two-way tie for the fifth most goals scored (32) in BC women's soccer history.

  • Bridgewater will open their 2025 home slate against Catholic on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. the match will be streamed on FloCollege.
