The Basics
Score: No. 2 Bridgewater 2, No. 6 Ferrum 0
Records: Bridgewater 29-13; Ferrum 14-24
How It Happened
- Evelyn Rhoads got the call in the circle and did not allow a runner to reach in the top of the first. The BC offense got to work from the jump as Caroline Malandra hit a laser at third base that dropped for a base hit. A bunt moved her to second and a flyout pushed her to third as she tagged up. Jazmyne Smith followed with a walk and Kaelyn Ramsey delivered as she followed with a rocket to the fence in right field to drive in both runners and make it 2-0 for BC.
- Ferrum had a chance to strike in the second as back-to-back singles with one away put runners on. The next batter for the Panthers was tagged by a pitch to load the bases, but a groundball to McKenna Mueller at short led to the 6-4-3 double play to end the scoring chance.
- BC went down in order in the home half of the second, while Rhoads put FC away without a threat. Bridgewater put a runner on as Jordan Wise reached on an error. Molly Ecroyd came on to run and swiped second, but she was stranded after a long flyout to left field.
- The Panthers stranded a runner in the top of the fourth, and the Eagles had a chance to extend the lead with two runners in scoring position but left them stranded.
- Neither side put a runner on in the fifth or sixth sending the game to the seventh with a 2-0 BC advantage. Rhoads retired the first hitter vie the strikeout and a nifty catch by Mueller in foul territory put the Panthers to their final out. Ramsey closed out the shutout by Rhoads with a grab in left to take the win.
Match Notes
- Rhoads (10-3) tossed the complete game shutout as she allowed just three hits. Ramsey tallied two of the Eagles' three hits and drove in both runs in the victory.
- Wood took the loss for the Panthers in their final contest as ODAC members. Three different Panthers tallied hits.
