Game 1
The Basics
Score:
Game 1: Bridgewater 12, EMU 0
Records: Bridgewater 16-9 (6-1 ODAC), EMU 8-14-1
How It Happened
  • Bridgewater went down in order in the top of the first, and the Royals started the home half of the frame with a walk, but left the runner stranded. EMU drew another walk in the bottom of the second, but two strikeouts from Cauthorn retired the side.
  • The Bridgewater offense got to work in the top of the third as Leiah Branch opened the frame with a double and a sacrifice bunt moved her over to third. Molly Ecroyd walked and swiped second the first chance she got to put two runners in scoring position for Kaelyn Ramsey. The junior connected and sent a ball over the wall in left field for a three-run home run to make it 3-0 for BC. The Eagles were not finished there as Aniella Baldwin reached on an error and McKenna Mueller followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Jazmyne Smith popped up to the shortstop, but the Royals dropped it, allowing her to reach and Baldwin to score. Jordan Wise followed with a walk and Cauthorn gave herself some run support with a single up the middle to drive in Mueller and Smith to make it 6-0 for the good guys.
  • Cauthorn fanned two as EMU went down in order in the bottom of the third. Ramsey opened the visiting half of the fourth with a single and Baldwin reached on a fielder's choice that left both her and Ramsey safe. Mueller followed with a single to bring in Ramsey, and Smith backed that up with a double the opposite way to drive in Baldwin and Mueller to stretch the gap to 9-0.
  • EMU got a runner on in the bottom of the fourth via a hit by pitch, but another strikeout by Cauthorn and two quick outs put the Royals chances away. BC put a runner on in the top of the fifth as Caroline Malandra was tagged with a pitch and then proceeded to steal second. Abby Byrum followed with a single to push Malandra to third and Byrum stole second in the next at bat. Andrea Savage stepped in the box next and delivered with a single through the right side to drive in Malandra. Lily Moyers pinch hit for BC and singled to drive in Savage and Byrum to make it 12-0 for the Eagles.
  • The Royals came up in need of runs and Cauthorn shut them down with three strikeouts as he recorded her 200th of her career to polish off her second no-hitter of the season.
Match Notes
  • Cauthorn (7-5) picked up the victory with her second no-hitter of the season over five innings. Ramsey, Moyers, Smith and Cauthorn all drove in multiple runs for the Eagles offensively as every starter reached safely.
  • Lambert (3-4) took the loss for EMU over 2.1 innings of work and allowing four earned runs.
Game 2
Score: Bridgewater 10, EMU 5
Records: Bridgewater 17-9 (7-1 ODAC); EMU 8-15-1
  • Mueller opened up the scoring in game two with a hard solo shot to left field to make it 1-0 two outs in. EMU went down in order as Evelyn Rhoads induced a pair of groundouts to start the game.
  • Bridgewater stranded runners in the second and third innings as the Royals got their first hit of the game 22 outs into the contest, but left two runners stranded.
  • BC tagged on to the lead in the fourth as Smith singled with one away to get the party started. Ecroyd ran for Smith and stole second as Wise walked to put two runners on. Lexi Schaaf followed with a double to drive in Ecroyd to make it 2-0. Savage followed with a single the opposite way to drive in Wise. Malandra dug in next and lifted a ball to left and over the wall for a three-run home run to make it 6-0.
  • EMU got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Meaghan Dean connected with a three-run home run to left field to cut the lead in half. BC replied as Wise drew another walk and Schaaf followed with a two-run home run to left field to make it 8-3. Branch followed with a double later in the inning, but she was left stranded.
  • The Royals tagged on two more runs to cut the lead back down to three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but a double by Schaaf drove in two more runs for the Eagles in the top of the seventh to make it 10-5 before the game was called due to darkness.
Match Notes
