How It Happened
-
In an action-packed battle, the Eagles and the Green Terror never let the game get away from either of the two squads continuously exchanging strong scoring sequences. As the action unraveled, BCE began with an aggressive start through the first half, but MCD quickly shut the scoring surge down, shifted the momentum in the second half and erased the deficit confidently. With the clock winding down in regulation and both teams fighting to grasp the lead, it came down to the very last horn.
-
The Eagles began the first quarter effectively, taking advantage of a costly turnover in dangerous defensive territory. Jenna Entsminger rang in the first goal on the day with a smooth pass by Paige Mayers at the 13:50 mark. As possessions soon settled and aggressive attacks were exerted, MCD knotted it up in under 10 minutes in the opening quarter. BCE stayed persistent shortly after working a foul in the crease to earn a free position attempt. Carly Gardill took care of the rest and slid the shot past the goalie for the 2-1 score. Mayers then swiftly collected a ground ball in the opposing defensive third laying her first goal of the day in.
-
BCE charged into the second quarter with an aggressive approach eventually rumbling to an 8-3 lead from the help of Mayers, Jenna Entsminger, and Caris Cianelli resulting in a large, commanding lead entering the second half.
-
However as much of the game began to show, McDaniel found ways to slowly creep back in applying subtle pressure and cutting down on turnovers. Before the Green Terror ignited a scoring boost, Mayers found the back of the net to sink the ninth goal of the game. MCD did not waste time and abruptly flipped the system, pouring on four unanswered goals in the third quarter. BCE managed to keep a three-goal advantage ahead of the fourth at 10-7.
-
The Green Terror kept finding answers from the third quarter successfully working back into the game. MCD applied more pressure and earned two more goals to cut the deficit to only one with 9:01 left. Caris Cianelli responded well off the clear to slide in the 11th goal and maintain a two-point lead. However, MCD found the momentum builder coming out of the timeout and knocked in its 10th goal. With both teams squaring off and exchanging powerful possession attacks, the Green Terror seeped through the cracks and slid in the equalizer as time winded down to head to overtime. In the final minute once again, MCD captured the game-winning goal for the 12-11 finish.
