Records: BCE (9-8 OVR, 5-5 ODAC), RMC (13-4 OVR, 8-2 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • A very back-and-forth game took place at Day Field under the lights with both teams exchanging goals early in the opening quarter. When Bridgewater scored, RMC answered back shortly after. However, the Yellow Jackets took hold of a commanding scoring surge in the second quarter to apply grueling pressure for the rest of the game. Five unanswered goals for RMC held down the Eagles enough to steady the course and negate any scoring threat from becoming a serious takeover.
  • Although the Yellow Jackets found answers early on in the game, the Eagles held strong throughout the gam including scoring the opening point in the first six minutes of play. Paige Overeem knocked in a smooth shot past the goalie off an aggressive attack in the crease for the 1-0 early lead. However, RMC dialed in and responded with two goals and the lead at the 5:56 mark. Overeem helped the Eagles knot it back up in the first quarter off another solo drive.
  • Then, Paige Mayers took a turn at goal and slashed a shot past the goalie for the 3-2 edge to open the second quarter but the Yellow Jackets ignited an aggressive offense rolling to a five-goal scoring run for a convincing 7-3 advantage. Grace Pietro managed to interrupt the scoring surge with an extra player on the field at the 1:52 mark, although RMC did not stop there; collecting two more goals to close the first half.
  • The Yellow Jackets quickly upped the lead to 11-4 getting two additional goals in to open the third quarter. Paige Mayers worked a potential momentum builder ripping through the defense for the fifth goal of the night with a man-up. Mayers continued the run and caught fire in the third quarter rumbling to a hat trick in three consecutive goals to cut the deficit to five in the fourth quarter.
  • RMC closed out the attempted comeback in the fourth by the Eagles to nail a 13-8 final score.

Game Notes

  • Randolph-Macon commanded possession right off the draw taking a 17-6 advantage in draw controls.
  • Paige Mayers continued to lift the Bridgewater offense posting four goals and two assists.
  • Maisen Jenkins collected 10 saves in the second half of action (second-most in the season).
