Women's Lacrosse Eases by EMU at Home

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater women's lacrosse cruised to a 19-1 win over EMU at home Wednesday night.

The Eagles won 19-1 against EMU, playing their final home game of the regular season.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 19, East Mennonite (EMU0 1

Records: BCE (9-6 OVR, 5-4 ODAC), EMU (6-9 OVR, 4-4 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles were able to hold down any offensive threat made by the EMU Royals on home turf and quickly put the ODAC rival in danger of making up ground. BCE continued to find open lanes and aggressive attacks to leave the Royals searching for a defensive stop. Paige Mayers laid in six goals in the opening quarter helping the Eagles explode offensively and keep EMU safely out of reach.

  • In addition to the six goals by Mayers to start out the game while capturing a hat trick in the first six minutes of action, Paige Overeem effectively got involved on the offensive end slicing through the defense to find the open net. After the dominant display to kick off the game, EMU was able to tally its lone goal of the night with under two minutes to go in the first, avoiding the shutout. Taylr Price added another goal to the quarter for strong 8-1 start.

  • More offenisve success came through for the Eagles in the second quarter as Kena Gresham continued the aggressive attack finding the crease off a slick pass from Madelaine Godat and sliding in the ninth goal on the night. The rest of the way throughout the game, the Eagles went unanswered. Jenna Entsminger joined the goal scorers making the lead expand to 10-1. Carly Gardill ended the half right before the clock expired, on a solo attack at net for the execution.

  • BCE managed to control possessions successfully gradually working through successful clears while holding the Royals to another shutout quarter. Entsminger logged a goal at the 7:17 mark with an assist by Kyla Fricks and two minutes later, Grace Pietro landed the 13th goal on the night.

  • The Eagles closed out the final quarter with a solidified six-goal scoring surge. Godat sent in the first goal of the fourth shortly followed by a goal from Entsminger again. Price, Mayers, Fricks, and Pietro all scored for an enormous 19-1 final score.
