Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Dominates in Convincing Win Over Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Bridgewater women's lacrosse took down Randolph in convincing fashion Saturday afternoon, winning 22-1 on the road.

The Eagles won 22-1 in ODAC play for their eighth matchup in the conference this season.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 22, Randolph (RC) 1

Records: BCE (8-6 OVR, 4-4 ODAC), RC (0-12 OVR, 0-8 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles took hold of an early lead and never let up the rest of the way. Full offensive attacks were at play, and the Wildcats did little to stop the aggressive possession control throughout the game. With a huge hill to climb for four quarters, RC could not find the answer to command any of its offense, although it got one to go as the clock winded down in the second quarter.

  • BCE jumped out of the gate landing three goals in the first three minutes of action. Paige Mayers went on a solo run attacking the crease and opened the scoring off the opening turnover from the Wildcats. A minute later, Jenna Entsminger took it herself to the goal and found open net. Then, Addison Garrett drove up field opening an aggressive drive to then slip a pass to Paige Overeem near the crease for the third goal of the game. Kena Gresham then came around to rip in the fourth goal in the first to end the quarter at 4-0.

  • It did not take much longer for Mayers to go on another run as Grace Pietro gave it off, to launch the fifth goal. It was then Garrett's turn to get into the scoring rhythm as Garrett calmly caught the pass by Overeem and successfully slid the shot past the opposing goalie. Olivia Lawrence joined in off the feed by Garrett to put in the seventh goal of the day. The Eagles kept pressing forward continuing an enormous scoring run to push the run to 11 unanswered goals before the Wildcats found a sudden slip in the defense for the lone goal and made the score stand at 11-1 after the first half.

  • 12 more unanswered goals were added to the score without a break in the entire second half. Mayers and Entsminger joined together trading goals for the first eight minutes, both knocking in two goals each. Overeem then brought the score to 16-1 with another goal on the day. Mayers and Entsminger ended the quarter how they started the quarter landing a goal each for the commanding 18-1 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

  • The Eagles continued to dominate, shutting down any offensive burst by RC. Mayers put together a pair of scoring drives while Carly Gardill finished off the strong outing with two goals, closing out the day with a 22-1 final score.

Game Notes

  • Bridgewater took advantage of turnovers as RC turned over possession in 23 situations while the Eagles limited turnovers to seven lost possessions.
