Baseball Falls Short to Marymount

TYSONS CORNER, Va. - Bridgewater baseball fell short to nationally recognized Marymount, 9-8 on the road at Capital One Park Wednesday night.

The Basics

Score: Marymount (MU) 9, Bridgewater (BCE) 8

Records: MU (9-2), BCE (7-4)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles found themselves in a big hole to climb out of in early innings despite the quick start in the opening frame. The rainy and wet conditions played a hand in fighting back in the matchup, hoping to square up a game-tying run in the final innings.

  • Zack Chadwell opened the scoring with a single out to left to bring home Trent Holland. However, in the bottom of the first, the Saints responded boldly by ringing in three runs with a pair of RBI singles and a scored run on a fielder's choice. Next inning, MU broke the score open launching a three-run homer after an RBI double.

  • In the third inning, the Eagles added a run on fielder's choice to knock in Nick Stavros. Soon after, Chandler Valbak crossed home on a ball darted in play. Then at a six-run deficit, Chadwell fired a shot over the wall for a solo homer. Bryce Suters repeated that action, this time with runners on base and sent a far shot over the wall for a three-run homer.

  • The Eagles kept the offensive stretch going, tying up the score at eight apiece with a clinical plate disciplined approach in the sixth inning. Lucas Bauer got Chadwell around to touch home with a walk.

  • Although fighting back late in the game, the Saints squeezed by the Eagles on a game-deciding RBI single. After the rain delay, the Eagles could not get Chadwell around to equalize the score, giving MU the edge for the 9-8 final.

Game Notes

  • Zack Chadwell shined for the Eagles offensively with five hits, two RBIs, and two scored runs.

  • Bryce Suters collected a team-high three RBIs with two hits and a scored run.

  • On the mound, Andrew Baugher turned the tides relieving Joe Christopher to get out of the struggled second inning and notched a stat line of three innings pitched; limiting the Saints' offense to a hit and a run along with a strikeout.
