Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls to Shenandoah

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater women's lacrosse faced tough competition in ODAC action, falling to Shenandoah 22-2 at home Wednesday.

The Eagles fell 22-2 in ODAC play for their fourth conference matchup of the season.

The Basics

Score: Shenandoah (SU) 22, Bridgewater (BCE) 2

Records: SU (7-3 OVR, 3-0 ODAC), BCE (6-4 OVR, 2-2 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The Hornets were ready to attack as soon as the game began, catching the Eagles off balance in dangerous defensive zones. The offensive core from Shenandoah found open lanes and let shots fly while the Eagles struggled to find the answer to counter on their end. SU took hold of a commanding lead and never lost momentum throughout the game despite the trying effort by the Eagles to place two shots in the back of the net.

  • SU quickly went up 2-0 in the first two minutes of play while executing on costly turnovers made by BCE. The Hornets launched three more goals in the back of the net to add plenty of breathing room heading into the second quarter.

  • In the second quarter, the Hornets did not wait, finding an open possession in dangerous territory in BCE's third. The Eagles worked to stop the attack but caused a free position attempt. Although an aggressive offense ensued throughout the first half, the Eagles found an opening to tack on a point with a free position goal by Paige Overeem. However, a green card opened the field for the Hornets with a man-up advantage allowing them to go on a two-goal scoring run within a minute of each other. After the quick scoring outburst, SU gradually found controlled possessions and built on a dominant quarter laying in eight goals to wrap the first half.

  • The same action that happened in the first half continued in the second half for the Hornets successfully gliding through the defense. SU managed to add five more goals to its score with a comfortable lead heading into the fourth quarter.

  • Despite a second goal by Paige Mayers at the 6:35 mark in the final quarter, the Hornets stopped any momentum in its tracks carrying a four-goal quarter to close out the ODAC clash under the lights.

Game Notes

  • Shenandoah found successful attacks to go its way collecting 40 total shots to Bridgewater's 10.

  • The turnovers by Bridgewater pushed the game out of reach while battling a large deficit to overcome with 19 turnovers on the day to only nine for SU.

  •  The goalkeeping duo, Maisen Jenkins and Rachael Robinson, got busy in tonight's matchup denying 13 combined shots on target while stopping six free position shots.
