Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater women's lacrosse took down Guilford, 18-5 on the road Saturday.

The Eagles won 18-5 against Guilford for their fifth ODAC matchup of the season.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 18, Guilford (GC) 5

Records: BCE (7-4 OVR, 3-2 ODAC), GC (3-7 OVR, 0-3 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles jumped out of the gate early and aggressively pouring on seven unanswered goals to start out the game. The Quakers could not make up any ground after the strong scoring surge by the Eagles and their dominant offensive pressure.

  • Paige Mayers got the scoring going for the Eagles for the opening point of the game. GC answered back early on, but that did not stop the Eagles from going on a rampage in the first quarter. Jenna Entsminger sliced through the defense, getting the feed from Mayers, and winding back to hit the back of the net. Paige Overeem then scored twice and Mayers got another goal to go in the first 10 minutes of play. Grace Pietro added to the scoring mastery for the sixth goal of the game. Entsminger and Mayers again traded a goal each to end the dominant scoring surge in the first despite giving up a second goal by GC in the final seconds of the first.

  • At 8-2, the Eagles hardly pressed on the brakes continuing to fight forward for every possession and control. Overeem suddenly turned on the jets and sailed through for a solo drive to the goal knocking in another goal to start out the second quarter. Mayers without hesitating landed yet another goal within seconds after each other. Caris Cianelli soon contributed to the large lead with a goal off the feed by Taylor Price. The Quakers managed to get another one to go, but the Eagles did not let up. Carly Gardill and Entsminger scored two more goals.

  • GC lunged forward to initiate a back-and-forth scoring sequence ripping through the defense to find the net twice. The Eagles quieted the surge and headed into the second half with a commanding 13-5 lead.

  • Both teams nipped any scoring surge from starting in the third quarter as both defenses shut down any potential scoring attack. However, the defense from the Quakers soon fell through leaving open lanes to the crease. Cianelli and Gardill split a goal each in the final quarter to seal the game at 18-5.

Game Notes

  • Bridgewater's offense went on full attack mode totaling 39 shots to Guilford's 12.

  • Paige Mayers delivered another high-scoring performance racking up seven goals and 10 points including 12 shots.

  • Paige Overeem also collected her third hat trick of the season.
