Game 1
The Basics
Score:
Game 1: Bridgewater 11, Guilford 0
Records: Bridgewater 11-4 (1-0 ODAC), Guilford 8-9 (0-1 ODAC)
How It Happened
  • Guilford drew a walk to open the game and moved the leadoff runner all the way to third after a pair of wild pitches, but a strikeout by Cauthorn in the circle ended the frame. BC wasted no time getting on the board as Aniella Baldwin opened the home half of the first with a single through the shift and swiped second right away. Kaelyn Ramsey followed with a picture-perfect bunt that allowed her to reach safely and move Baldwin to third. BC then put on the double steal and both runners advanced safely as Baldwin crossed the plate to make it 1-0. McKenna Mueller came up with one away and doubled to the wall in center field to drive in Ramsey and make it a two-run edge. Jazmyne Smith stepped in with two away and put her base shot to the wall as well to drive in Mueller and make it 3-0. Lily Moyers followed with a flare up the middle to drive in Smith and cap off a four-run frame by the Eagles.
  • Cauthorn made quick work in the top of the second highlighted by a pair of strikeouts and her squad gave ger even more run support in the home half of the frame. Baldwin drew a one-out walk and a single by Ramsey followed. Jordan Wise singled up the middle during the next at bat and drove Baldwin in to extend the lead. Mueller followed with a single to right field to drive in Ramsey and Smith walked later in the frame to jam the bases full for Moyers. The rookie delivered again with a single to drive in Wise easily and an errant throw by the Quakers brought Mueller in to score as well to make it 8-0 for the Eagles after two.
  • Cauthorn had to work through a rough patch to open the third as Guilford put two runners on via a walk and a hit batter with one away. A ground out moved both runners into scoring position, but a ground out over to Moyers at third kept the no-hit bid alive.
  • BC tagged on to the lead in the bottom of the third as a Tozier walk opened the inning. With one out, Ramsey stepped in next and continued to expand upon her hot week at the plate with a two-run home run over the wall in left to make it 10-0. Mueller walked with two outs and stole second two pitches later. Andrea Savage followed with a single to center field and another Quakers error allowed Mueller to score to make it 11-0.
  • Cauthorn flew through the top of the fourth with two pop ups and a strikeout, while her mates did not give her any more run support in the home half of the inning. The junior came back out for the fifth and showed no signs of nerves as she induced a pop up to Mueller at short stop and then retried the final two Quakers on strikes to secure the no hitter.
Match Notes
  • Cauthorn (5-2) tossed the first no hitter for the Eagles since 2019 when Emily Clifford hurled a five-inning no hitter against St. Vincent in Florida at The Spring Games. The junior allowed just three base runners in the outing and tallied eight strikeouts in just five frames of work.
  • The bats were on fire for BC with 11 runs on 11 combined hits. Ramsey went 3-for-3 with two RBI and her third home run of the week. Mueller also drove in a pair of runs and the duo scored three times each in the game one victory.
  • Shiloh Gray takes the loss for Guilford giving up four earned runs in just 0.2 innings of work. Chloee Stoner accounted for two of GC's base runners with a walk and a hit by pitch.
Game 2
Score: Bridgewater 2, Guilford 0
Records: Bridgewater 12-4 (2-0 ODAC), Guilford 8-10 (0-2 ODAC)
  • Guilford started the second game of the day with a base runner as the lead off batter was hit by a pitch. The Quakers got their first hit of the day with one away, but a strike out from Evelyn Rhoads and a pop up to Wise left the runner stranded.
  • BC went down in order in the bottom of the first and Rhodes put the Quakers down with no damage including a pair of punchouts in the top of the second. Bridgewater put two runners on in the bottom of the second thanks to a pair of GC errors.  Guilford defended the attempted double steal well to keep Mueller at third, but Moyers was able to reach second on the try to put a pair of runners in scoring position with no outs. Guilford escaped with no damage thanks to a pair of ground outs and a strikeout as the game remained scoreless.
  • GC put a runner in scoring position with a two-out double in the top of the third but left her stranded. BC went down in order in the bottom of the frame and Rhodes put Guilford down with ease in the visiting half of the fourth as the game remained scoreless.
  • The goose eggs finally fell off the board in the bottom o the fourth as a one-out single from Mueller got BC in business. Guilford got the second out on a flyout, but Mueller stole second during the next at bat and got around to third thanks to an off-target throw by the Quakers on the play. Smith stepped in next and sent a pop-up sky high in the infield, but GC watched it fall to the dirt as no one called for it. Mueller scored easily and Smith got credited with the base hit. Lexi Schaaf single to extend the inning further, but a ground out followed to end the inning with the Eagles now in front 1-0.
  • Rhodes struck out the side in the top of the fifth and BC added on to the lead as a pinch-hit single from Molly Ecroyd opened the frame. Ecroyd stole second and another throwing error from behind the plate put her on third. Ramsey hit a dribbler to short stop and the throw at the plate was slightly late and off target allowing Ecroyd to score and make it 2-0.
  • Rhodes rolled through the sixth with no issues and BC left a runner stranded at second in the home half of the frame. Guilford tallied a one-out single in the top of the seventh to bring the potential game-tying run to the dish with one out, but a strikeout by Rhoads and a flyout in foul territory to Schaaf behind the plate sealed the deal on the sweep.
Match Notes
  • Rhoads (3-1) took the victory in the circle allowing just three hits and retiring eight on strikes. Schaaf was the only Eagle with multiple base hits in game two as Ramsey drove in a run in her third straight game.
  • Dillon Northern (2-1) took the loss for Guilford despite not surrendering an earned run. GC got hits from three different players in game two.
