Men's Lacrosse Falls at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell to Catholic 17-7 on the road on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
Score: Catholic 17, Bridgewater 7
Records: Bridgewater 2-5, Catholic 2-4

How It Happened
  • Catholic won the opening face off and fired multiple shots on its first possession, but came up empty. A BC turnover gave CUA possession back and the Cardinals wasted no time to take a 1-0 lead. Catholic added on to the lead, but BC struck back five minutes into the frame as Luke Wendler scored on a defensive-end turnover by the Cardinals. Catholic scored twice down the stretch in the opening quarter to take a 4-1 lead, but BC had a chance to cut into the lead in the final seconds of the quarter, but Jake Wagner's shot missed wide.
  • The Cardinals added to the lead to start the second quarter with a tally one minute in, but a long possession by the Eagles saw BC miss shots wide of the cage. Bridgewater struck back on the man-advantage as Wendler scored again on the man-up to slice the lead down to 5-2. CUA added to the lead twice late in the quarter with a pair of goals in just over 30 seconds to make it 7-2 with 2:21 to play in the half. BC had another chance at the end of the quarter but a Ryan Linn shot whistled wide to send the game to the break at the same 7-2 scoreline.
  • CUA won the opening face off of the second half and extended the lead with three goals in just over two minutes to take a 10-2 edge. Catholic scored two more times in the frame before Alex Garbarino fired his shot past the Cardinals goalie to make it 12-3. The Cardinals scored two more times in the final two minutes of the quarter to make it 14-3 heading to the final 15 minutes.
  • Ryan Addison gave the Eagles life after another Catholic tally as his caused turnover led to a goal by Linn just under three minutes into the final frame. Colin Chizmar forced a Catholic turnover and the Eagles got back on the board as Garbarino found nylon. A win by Colt Short at the face off dot kept the momentum rolling and Wendler finished off the hat trick to cut the lead to 15-6 with 5:47 to go. CUA ended the BC run with a tally 26 seconds later and added on to that with 1:54 to play. Linn added one more tally to finish off the scoring with his seventh goal of the year.

  • Steven Dezelic tallied three goals and an assist for the Cardinals. Ryan Macksound went 15-of-20 on face offs for CUA and picked up nine ground balls.
