Baseball Falls Short to Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - Bridgewater baseball fell short to nationally recognized Piedmont, 7-5 on the road in the first game of spring break Friday afternoon.

The Basics

Score: Piedmont (PU) 7, Bridgewater (BCE) 5

Records: PC (7-1), BCE (4-3)

How It Happened

  • A back-and-forth game that carried well into the later innings soon shifted in Piedmont's favor knocking in two RBI singles to keep the score at 7-5 for the rest of the way. The Eagles began the momentum-shifting energy with a two-run shot over the wall by Trent Holland scoring in Nick Stavros. PU evened the score up quickly in the bottom of the first with a one-run triple and a sacrifice fly.

  • The Lions took the lead in the fourth, on a wild pitch scoring the runner in from third. BCE later came back to regain the lead collecting a run in the fifth and another run in the sixth. Ashton Smith connected on a one-run double with Holland crossing home. Stavros the next inning put one out to the outfield that helped Cam Herron reach home.

  • At 4-3 BCE, PU answered with a two-run homer in the seventh. Zack Chadwell then came up to bat in the eighth flying out to right but creating a chance for Chandler Valbak to score.

  • In the bottom of the eighth, the Lions once again responded and lifted the score to 7-5 on a pair of RBI singles sealing the game for the first outing of spring break in Georgia.

Game Notes

  • Starting Bridgewater pitcher Nick Harris landed a stat line of seven innings pitched on eight hits, five earned runs, two walks, and two strikeouts.

  • Trent Holland carried a strong 2-for-4 day with a two-run homer, two runs scored, and two hits.

  • Ashton Smith had another multi-hit game with a single and a double.
