Eagles Secure Win Over Greensboro in Georgia

DEMOREST, Ga. - Bridgewater baseball squeezed by Greensboro to take 6-4 win in the second game of the spring break weekend in Georgia Saturday.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 6, Greensboro (GC) 4

Records: BCE (5-3), GC (5-5)

How It Happened

  • Despite the early surge from the Pride, the Eagles turned the momentum around in the later innings to give themselves enough insurance for the win. However, GC got out of the gate fast with three early runs in the first inning. BCE managed to work a run in off a Chandler Valbak deep sacrifice fly. Nick Stavros crossed home to cut the deficit to 3-1 at the end of the first.

  • Both starting pitchers settled in holding off any scoring run until the fourth inning. The Pride logged an added run to make it 4-1. Then, in the next inning, the Eagles responded scoring in Lucas Bauer and Bransen Hensley off a pair of drilled ground outs by TJ Johnson and Stavros.

  • Down 4-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles got busy. Bauer ripped a single for a two-run knock, bringing home Ashton Smith and Trent Holland. Hensley rounded out the sixth with a single of his own to help score Bauer.

  • Andrew Baugher came in for Cam Nuckols in the seventh getting out of trouble and then striking out two batters in the eighth.  The score remained, 6-4 leaving a man on base in the ninth and sealing the win on a putout from third baseman, Ashton Smith

Game Notes

  • Lucas Bauer finished with a strong performance offensively earning two RBIs and two scored runs.

  • On the mound, Cam Nuckols carried a stat line of six innings pitched with five hits, five strikeouts, three earned runs, and four walks along with the win.

  • Andrew Baugher earned his first save of the season with just one hit along with three K's.
