Baseball Sweeps McDaniel in Doubleheader Sunday

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater baseball grabbed the weekend series sweep against McDaniel along with a sweep in the doubleheader Sunday afternoon at home.

The Eagles took the first game, 7-3 and then nabbed the second game, 7-6 in a thrilling walk-off win off a solo shot by Zack Chadwell.

The Basics

Game 1 Score: Bridgewater 7 (BCE), McDaniel (MD) 3

Game 2 Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 7, McDaniel (MD) 6

Records: BCE (3-1), MD (0-3)

How It Happened

Game 1

  • The Eagles went on a comeback surge offensively to keep the Green Terror away from making up any serious ground. In the bottom of the third inning, BCE got the scoring going off a dialed single by Chandler Valbak to hit in Trent Holland. 1-0 was all the Eagles could muster for the next four innings.

  • MD returned the favor in the top of the fifth evening the score at one. Then, in the seventh, MD tacked on two more scored runs with a pair of singles. The next inning, the Eagles came storming back being down 3-1. Chadwell started the action with a single, scoring in Valbak. Camden Herron then knotted the game at three apiece with a ripped single down the left-field line, bringing home Jack Hayes.

  • Hunter Covill sealed the save in the ninth to give the Eagles the win in the first of two games on the day.

Game 2

  • The Eagles continued to look for their scoring chance in game two and found it in the fifth inning. Chadwell left a no-doubter over the right-field wall to collect two RBIs with Jack Hayes crossing home plate from a single. Evan Bert got it to six innings until the Green Terror had bases loaded and walking in two runners.

  • BCE answered in the bottom of the sixth from the hot bat of Smith lining a single to left, earning two RBIs with Valbak and Stavros both scoring.

  • The next inning, MD fired back again, putting up three runs with a pair of walks and a single. At six apiece, BCE headed into the ninth looking for another walk-off chance and got it. Chadwell rocketed his second homer of the game into oblivion for the 7-6 win in the second game of the doubleheader.
