How It Happened
-
The two costly errors put the Eagles in more jeopardy than they bargained for as the Red Devils cashed in on the errors; however, both teams answered back. DC got the early lead in the top of the first inning off a sac fly and a bloop-single into left field for the 2-0 score. In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles responded with a laced double off Ashton Smith's hot bat to hit in Chandler Valbak and Lucas Bauer.
-
Then, in a sac bunt opportunity in the fourth, the Red Devils executed to precision knocking in a runner. The Eagles did not go away, adding two runs on the board with a two RBI single hit out to left field from leadoff hitter, Nick Stavros. BCE gained the lead heading into the fifth inning.
-
Soon after, DC got right back into action scoring in another runner off a lined-single down the middle to make it four apiece in the fifth inning. Later, the Red Devils marked another run in the sixth off a sac fly. In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles evened the score back up as Valbak lifted one out to right field to bring in Stavros.
-
The ninth inning came around and the Eagles were ready to attack, driving in three runs. Trent Holland started it off with a flyout to right scoring in Bauer. Then, Smith launched a no-doubter over the left field wall to give the Eagles a third walk-off win in four games to start the season.
