BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's soccer team took down the Roanoke Maroons 2-0 Saturday evening. The Eagles defeated the Maroons for the first time since 2019 to stay undefeated in ODAC play this season.

How It Happened

The first half was a quiet one in terms of scoring opportunities. The first shot of the match came from Matthew Brand-Jimenez off a set piece in the eighth minute. His shot was blocked, but it was recovered by Bridgewater. Anthony Eugenio took a shot of his own, but it was off target.

In the 17th minute, The Bridgewater defense had their biggest scare of the match. Roanoke's Grey Morris put a shot on target, but it was deflected by Zane Kowalski, resulting in a RC corner opportunity. The Maroons were unable to score on the set piece.

Riley Queen put the first shot on target for the Eagles in the 32nd minute, but it was stopped by the Roanoke keeper. Anthony Eugenio and Anthony Medrano ripped shots in the waning minutes of the half, but were unable to score.

The second half saw increased physicality from both sides. Despite this, the Eagles found their first score of the match from Jayden Buckles. A crowd of white and red jerseys were scrambling for the ball in the box. The ball found its way to Buckles on the right of the field. Buckles launched a shot, finding the back of the net.

In the 71st minute, Riley Queen headed the ball to Widrick from the center circle. Widrick beat two Roanoke players, leaving him in isolation with the RC keeper. He was able to score, giving the Eagles an insurance goal.
