Field Hockey Takes Care of Sweet Briar

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College field hockey team rolled to a 5-0 victory over Sweet Briar on Wednesday night.

The Basics 

Score: Bridgewater 5, Sweet Briar 0

Records: Bridgewater 8-8 (4-3 ODAC), Sweet Briar 3-11 (1-7 ODAC)

How It Happened 

  • Bridgewater jumped on the offensive first with multiple shots in the early going. Natalie Stock had a shot on target turned away eight minutes in and BC kept pushing. The Eagles finally broke through as Kylie Amberger found Abigail Mundhenk in front of the crease and she buried her shot to make it 1-0. Bridgewater kept rolling with multiple shots down the stretch in the frame, including a shot by Autumn Just that went wide in the final minute of the stanza. 

  • The Eagles offense continued to roll with multiple shots early in the frame. With under five minutes to go in the second quarter, Jade Buckles fired a shot from the edge of the zone and scored her first career goal to make it 2-0. BC added one more goal with one second left in the half as Maylynn Watson fired a feed from Carynn Klingler to the back of the net to make it 3-0 at the half.

  • Mollie Best had BC's first scoring opportunity of the third quarter and her first attempt was saved, but her second chance found the back of the net to make it 4-0. The Eagles added to the lead with a flury of shots, but it was the final effort from Lexi Francis that found the back fo the net to make it 5-0 with five minutes left in the period. Stock and Best each had shots turned away down the stretch as the lead remained at 5-0.

  • Both teams traded possession in the final stanza, but neither team was able to register a shot during the final 15 minutes. 

Game Notes 

  •  All the BC goals came from different Eagles as no player had multiple points. Neither goalkeeper faced a shot. 

  • SBC was led by 10 saves by Rayin Hart.

  • Bridgewater did not allow a shot as it held a 29-0 edge. 

Up Next 

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday as they conclude the regular season against Washington and Lee.
