Football Set for Trip to Lexington

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College football team heads south on I-81 for a visit to Washington and Lee.

When: Saturday, October 25, 2025
Where: Lexington, Va.
Stadium: Wilson Stadium
Kickoff: 4:00 pm
Gameday Forecast: Partly Cloudy and Cool, 56F
        0% Chance of rain
Series Record: WLU leads 32-22

I'LL TAKE THAT: The Bridgewater defense ranks second in the ODAC and ranks 16th in Div. III in fumble recoveries after Ryan Mundie became the seventh different Eagles to fall on a loose ball. Aaron Nice is tied for the ODAC lead as he averages a forced fumble every two games this season. The former All-American selection also ranks 13th in Div. III with that tally as well. The BC defense registered just its second interception of the season on Saturday, but Jonathan McCree made it count as he took it six yards to the house for a TD.

THE HOV PROFILE:  Jaicere Bateman is in his third season leading the Eagles' offense and sits among the ODAC leaders. Bateman leads the ODAC and ranks 44th nationally in passing yards despite playing just the firts half in Saturday's blowout victory. The junior also ranks second in the league in completion percentage (60.3%) and completed over 70% of his passes for the third time this season in Saturday's victory. The Lynchburg native's 18.9 completions per game is second in the ODAC and inside the top-50 nationally. Bateman also has six rushing scores to his credit to rank 13th nationally among quarterbacks.

STOPPING THE RUN: The Bridgewater defense will be asked to stop the run early and often on Saturday against the old-school WLU offense. The Generals lead the ODAC with 283.7 yards rushing per game with their Wing-T offense. BC's 137.1 yards per game against the run ranks third in the ODAC, but outside of the top 100 nationally.

STOPS BEHIND THE LINE:  Aaron Nice and Shalin Green rank among the ODAC leaders in sacks per game. Nice ranks 14th in Div. III in sacks per game (1.1) and 21st in tackles for loss per contest (1.8), while Green ranks sixth in the ODAC averaging 0.5 sacks per game. BC opened the season with 11 tackles for loss against Stevenson, but had not tallied half of that total in a single game since. That trend changed Saturday. The Eagles registered 10 stops behind the line including a pair of sacks.

SPECIAL TEAMS MATTER:  Bridgewater's reign of ODAC Special Teams Players of the Week came to an end, but the Eagles still sit among the national leaders in everything special teams. BC ranks 15th nationally in kick returns, anchored by Brendan Robinson, who sits in the top 50 in Div. III in the category as an individual. Aiden Grefe has fallen under the NCAA minimum to qualify after BC did not punt at all last week, but the local product's 44.0 yards per attempt would rank third nationally.

SCOUTING THE GENERALS: Washington and Lee enters Saturday's matchup fresh off the bye week and as winners of three of its last four contests. The Generals play a very disciplined brand of football as they rank in the top 25 nationally in fewest penalties and top 40 in fewest turnovers lost. WLU's ground game is back and as efficient as usual; they pace the ODAC and rank fifth nationally in rushing. This also transfers to them, ranking seventh in Div. II in time of possession and just eighth in tackles for loss allowed. The Generals' defense has also been a talking point. WLU ranks in the top half of the ODAC in passing and rushing defense.

WASHINGTON AND LEE HEAD COACH:  Garrett LeRose is in his eighth year leading the Generals. LeRose is a 2007 graduate of the Lexington institution, and his coaching experience has all come there as well. He joined the program in 2008 as an assistant coach and was on a staff that made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament thanks to four ODAC Championships. In 2021, LeRose claimed his first title as a head coach and was named the ODAC Coach of the Year for his efforts in returning the Generals to the top of the conference for the first time since 2017. The Generals have finished .500 or better in each of his seasons at the helm of the program, including a pair of eight-win campaigns.

GROUND GAME: Washington and Lee's running game is once again among the national leaders this season. WLU rushing attack ranks fifth in Div. III at the tune of 283.7 yards per game. The Generals' triple-option look has Anthony Crawford among the ODAC and national leaders when it comes to all things rushing. Crawford leads the ODAC with 116.8 rushing yards per game and nine scores on the ground. He also leads the league in points scored and total touchdowns.

TRIPLE OPTION: Washington and Lee is one of the few teams that operates out of a triple option set. The Generals join a select list, including the likes of Army and Navy, that currently run it along with Georgia Tech, who ran it for numerous years under Paul Johnson. WLU's play calling has been run-heavy, but the execution is well done. Look for lots of pre-snap motion as wingbacks will likely move pre-snap to give the quarterback options in where to go with the football. WLU leads the conference and is among the leaders in DIv. III in rushing once again.

SIXTY-ONE YEARS OF HISTORY: The Eagles and Generals meet for the 55th time on Saturday in a series dating back to 1964. The Generals won the first nine meetings in the all-time set with BC's first victory coming in 1979 in Lexington. WLU holds a 32-22 edge in the series, including winning seven of the last 10 meetings. If you take away the first 10 and the last 10 meetings, the series has been relatively even, as BC held a slight edge in those 34 games at an 18-16 mark.

ROAD WARRIORS: BC ended a 364-day home-victory drought on Saturday and immediately heads back on the road. The Eagles are 1-2 on the road this season and are 13-11 on the road under Scott Lemn during his tenure. Bridgewater is seeking its first victory in Lexington since the 2019 ODAC Championship campaign.

DID YOU KNOW?: BC head coach Scott Lemn is in search of his first victory as a head coach in Lexington. Lemn has just two victories on the gridiron in the city as one came in 2019 as an assistant coach at BC, while the other came as a player for JMU in 2006 at VMI.
