Birkley Breaks Program Assists Record, Eagles Silence Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team won against Gettysburg 3-0 Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Gettysburg had two early shot attempts in the first two minutes. The first was stopped by Rylee Asiello, and the second was missed right. Asiello faced another shot in the 7th minute and managed to make the save.
  • Gettysburg kept applying pressure on the offensive end, ripping shots towards the goal. Bridgewater's first shot attempt came from Laura Narby in the 25th minute. Narby's shot was off the mark. Katherine King missed a shot high a minute later.
  • Sarah Farally and King each ripped shots in the 30th minute to no avail. Lucy Larson took the last shot attempt of the half for the Eagles in the final minute and missed the mark.
  • Narby took a shot from range in the 49th minute. Her shot found the back of the net for the first score of the match.
  • In the 73rd minute, the Eagles scored off a set piece. Brianna Curro sent the ball into the playing field on a throw in, finding Kendall Garza for the insurance goal.
  • Over a minute later, Lyric Birkley dished the ball ahead to a wide open Farally. The freshman midfielder ripped a shot past the goalie for the third goal of the night. The assist was credited to Birkley, making her the program leader in career assists.
  • In the waning minutes, Gettysburg almost got on the scoreboard off a set piece. Gettysburg's Elise Fox sent a shot that was projected to find the back of the net, but instead, it was blocked by the crossbar. Mallory Hurlock sent a rebound shot towards the goal, but missed high.
Match Notes
  • Lyric Birkley recorded her 27th career assists, passing Keri Rager for the program record for assists. The assist also put Birkley at 109 career points, four points away from the top mark in program history.
  • Laura Narby scored her 12th goal of the season, good for the seventh-highest single season mark in program history.
  • Rylee Asiello made her first start of the season and played 90 minutes between the pipes for the Eagles. The sophomore keeper faced 17 shots and made nine saves.
  • Gettysburg ripped more shots in the match than Bridgewater. Gettysburg had 17 shots, with nine being on target. Bridgewater took eight shots, with three on target.
  • Sarah Farally scored her second goal of the season. She has recorded shot attempts in the last four contests.

Bridgewater travels to the Hill City to face Lynchburg on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed on FloCollege.
